It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Deacon Herbert Shelley Jr. (Farmville, North Carolina), who passed away on March 8, 2023, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. Deacon HERBERT SHELLEY JR., has fought a good fight, he has finished his course, he kept the faith; henceforth, there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge shall give him at the last day. On Wednesday morning, March 8, 2023 at 9:00AM, Herbert Jr. fufill God’s will and moved onward according to the heavenly plan. God blessed HERBERT JR, with life on August 15, 1933 and was the first born to the late Elder Herbert and Nellie Shelley. He attended the Greene and Pitt County Schools. He later met and married Eva Pearl May and from that union were born 8 children. In his mid-life, he learned that Jesus Christ (Mary’s Baby as he would call HIM) was the way to eternal life. He joined the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in October 1982 and was later ordained as a Deacon within the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Association. He served as a deacon of the Mt.Olive Primitive Baptist Church on down to the end. Assured by the Lord Jesus Christ, he believed with complete certainty that nothing will separate him from God’s Love and Grace. He developed an inner strength, perseverance and a quiet confident way of enjoying life with the church, family and friends. HERBERT JR. attunded himself to his job working at the Hog Market, landscaping, gardening and cutting grass; “A shout out” to his employer, David Starlings who preceded him in death. They were inseperable. The Starlings, the Fulfords and the Rhodes famlies were his second home during the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner where he enjoyed many holiday dinners with them . For more than 60 years, Herbert Jr. worked for these families HERBERT JR. was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Pearl Shelley; five sisters, Elizabeth Shelley Johnson, Carrie Bell Shelley, Mattie Shelley Cherry, Emma Shelley Atkinson and Betty Shelley May; one brother, Willie James Shelley and a step-mother, Ada Thigpen Shelley. HERBERT JR. leaves to cherish his memory: five daughters, Charlotte Campbell (Thomas) of Waldorf, MD, Linda Baker (Lewis) of Greenville, NC, Diane Shelley of Stanford, CT, April Shelley Barr (Phillip) of Stanford, CT, Sandy Wilson Santana of Lexington, MD; four sons, Herbert Earl Shelley (Brenda) of Farmville, NC, Levy Shelley (Margie) of Stanford, CT and Randy Jones (Angela) of Farmville, NC; a host of grandkids, great grandkids, greatgreat-grandkids the Thigpen children of his late stepmother and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends "I WILL TRUST IN THE LORD TILL I DIE" Leave a sympathy message to the family on the memorial page of Deacon Herbert Shelley Jr. to pay them a last tribute.
